Innovation Way – East Orlando’s Longest Dead End Road

August 31, 2007

According to Mark Massaro, Director of Orange County Public Works, the extension of Alafaya Trail will be completed in March 2008. However, negotiations to connect Alafaya Trail to the Beachline have been delayed for at least another 2 ½  to 3 years.

Linda Stewart, Orange County Commissioner for District 4, challenges Massaro’s report. She says that Orange County has spent $26 million to expand Alafaya Trail and we’re not going to have it go down the drain to a dead end. She concludes that soon after March or April of 2008, we will be able to drive down Alafaya to the Beachline.

So who is right? Is there a contract on the interchange’s construction? I can’t seem to find any records of this on the county’s website.

I live in Avalon and I can see that the extension has been started and they’re working on it. It needs to be paved still. I hope it’s done by March!

Pam, the extension of Alafaya Trail is indeed being worked on. As a matter of fact, it is ahead of schedule by 6 months or so. Our problem is that the Interchange that will connect Alafaya to the Beachline (SR 528) is up in the air. As far as I know, a contract for its construction has not been accepted as of yet. That pushes us out another 2-3 years of actually seeing some traffic release.

I think Dawn is correct, I asked around and it seems that we will not have access to SR 528 for at least 2yrs. Do you know if the new extension connects to any other roads?
