Alafaya Trail Extension Innovation Way Update January 2008

January 5, 2008

I recently received a very thorough response from Brian Sanders, Orange County Public Works, regarding the progress of the Alafaya Trail Extension, otherwise known as Innovation Way. This is the road that is planned to relieve traffic from the Avalon Park area.
In a nutshell:

The widening of Alafaya Trail from 2 lanes to 4 is still in the design phase. This phase is scheduled to be completed by April. Construction should begin December 2008 and be complete December 2010.

The Alafaya Trail Extension is 78% complete and should be finished by December 2008. The connection of the Alafaya Trail Extension to the Beachline (SR 52 8) is currently in the design phase. It is in the beginning stages of planning, but as of now, construction is anticipated to begin in 2010 and be complete 2012.

There are no other plans in place to relieve traffic from the Avalon Park neighborhood. Click here for more detailed information.

This is ridiculous. The whole point of the extension, Innovation Way, is to connect Alafaya Trail to SR 528. To build that road without a connector design is nothing but a waste of my tax dollars. I have been living in Stoneybrook for six years and have not seen any significant changes that would show me that relief is on the way other than a road that is only extending a dead end. Where is Linda Stewart? Why does this project keep getting prolonged? Where are my tax dollars going to? When can we get local media support to push this matter further to a quicker and defined solution? Does anybody care?

What is the latest news on the opening or not-opening of Innovation Way. Traffic is not getting any better for anyone using Alafaya Trail. To build this road with no way to use it until the 528 exchange is complete seems to be ridiculous. How true is that statement. and what is the planned opening of this road?? Is there a web-site to access this kind of info on Central Florida road projects?

We were one of the first to put money on a lot in Avalon back in 1998. I was told back then that it would be two years before we had a road going out to the Beachline. We moved in to Avalon in August of 1999 and once again I was told we were 2 years away from having a road connecting to the Beachline. Every couple years since then, I have inquired about the road only to be told that it would be another two years… It has now become a running joke around the neighborhood. Two years! I will believe it when its done.

What is the point of this road again? So, this road does in fact goes all the way to 528, right but without a ramp? Ok, ok, so since the county wishes to play silly games, how about we just make dust road ramp straight into 528, much like Texans do in rural parts of the state?

Who thinks of these things? Lets have a recall. Don’t mind how much the recall will cost. Who cares? After all, they don’t care how much they have spent on a useless road.
