5 Things to Know About Homeowner’s Insurance

1. Know about exclusions to coverage. For example, most insurance policies do not cover flood or earthquake damage as a standard item. These types of coverage must be bought separately.
2. Know about dollar limitations on claims. Even if you are covered for a risk, there may be a limit on how much the insurer will pay. For example, many policies limit the amount paid for stolen jewelry unless items are insured separately.
3. Know the replacement cost. If your home is destroyed you’ll receive money to replace it only to the maximum of your coverage, so be sure your insurance is sufficient. This means that if your home is insured for $150,000 and it costs $180,000 to replace it, you’ll only receive $150,000.
4. Know the actual cash value. If you chose not to replace your home when it’s destroyed, you’ll receive replacement cost, less depreciation. This is called actual cash value.
5. Know the liability. Generally your homeowner’s insurance covers you for accidents that happen to other people on your property, including medical care, court costs, and awards by the court. However, there is usually an upper limit to the amount of coverage provided. Be sure that it’s sufficient if you have significant assets.

Orange County Plans to Make Traffic Worse in Waterford Lakes

Why do the planners with the Orange County Transportation Division have it in for the residents of Waterford Lakes and Waterford Chase? First they suffocate us with Dead End Avalon Park’s traffic- were the road works plans even looked at before construction??? And now, we have the water reclamation pipes to be installed along Woodbury Road for the next year.
We were warned last month that the speed limit will be reduced to 25mph during construction. HELLO- Waterford Lakes residents are lucky to get up to 25mph with all the traffic funneled into our residential neighborhood.
Don’t get me wrong- I am all for water reclamation to be used for irrigation purposes. Great idea. It would be even better if Waterford Lakes residents received this reclaimed water. But we will not. No, the pipes in our neighborhood will not carry water to our homes. Orange County says we would cost them too much money.
But not to worry Eastwood residents- the transportation division says they will do their best not to disturb your beautiful landscaping within the central reservation. Good grief.

Quick Tips for a Better Smelling Kitchen

First and foremost- check the date! Remove and discard any food items from the refrigerator and pantry which are out-of-date.
Inside odors may easily be eliminated from the fridge by washing the inside with a baking soda and water solution, and for an instant fresh smell, soak cotton balls in vanilla extract or orange juice.
The microwave may be cleaned with baking soda and water as well. A cotton swab dipped into the solution helps clean the vents more easily. Try boiling lemon juice in the microwave and then add the juice to your dishwasher to remove unpleasant odors from there too!
And finally, use those lemon rinds down the disposal and voila, your kitchen has been made to smell fresh in 15 minutes or less!
